Anna Remondina crushes Vladimira Uhlirova to advance in qualifiers – Budapest Grand Prix 2011
Eight seeded Italian Anna Remondina slew Czech Vladimira Uhlirova with a bagel at Poli-Farbe Budapest Grand Prix 2011, a clay court tournament held in Hungary. She barely sweated in the opening set to register a 6-0, 6-4 victory
over 33-year-old Czech to advance into the second round of the qualifiers on Sunday.
The beaming Remondina earned a straight set victory against the Czech in one hour and fifteen minutes on their first meeting. She now stays on course to enter the main draw of this event.
Remondina stormed into the opening set and bombarded angled shots with perfection to reel off all six games in a row and earned a bagel. She produced an amazing first serve share of 78 percent as compared to Czech’s 48 percent
and registered a plausible 79 percent win on it. In addition to this, the Italian faced zero breakpoint and converted three out of six breakpoint chances to her advantage to succeed comfortably.
The higher ranked Italian kept momentum rolling into the final set as she smoothly held her opening serve. Regardless of facing many obstacles on her way to victory and losing her serve three times, Remondina broke the Czech’s
serve four times to pocket the set with a 6-4 score line. She again produced a higher first serve share of 64 percent as opposed to Uhlirova’s 58 percent but she earned a poor 46 percent win on it.
The Czech on the other hand committed several unforced errors and three double faults. She played poorly throughout the match and saved only eight out of fifteen breakpoints faced. Uhlirova only converted three out of nine breakpoint
chances and eventually exited the tournament with disappointment. She also extended her losing streak to six matches after exiting from qualifiers from all the tournaments she participated.
22-year-old Italian had a disastrous season as well as she exited from opening or second round matches from all the tournaments she played. She, however, reached final at Civitavecchia ITF before losing to Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor
before entering this event, her first WTA Premier event’s entry this year.
Remondina set up a clash against Slovak Michaela Honcova who downed Australian Jessica Moore with a bagel to reach this spot on Saturday.
The Aussie outshined Moore completely after producing a higher first serve share of 81 percent as compared to Honcova’s 64 percent and registered a magnificent 77 percent win on it. In addition to this, she converted six out of
twelve breakpoint opportunities to her advantage to seal the match with a 6-0, 6-3 victory in one hour and thirteen minutes.
