Anna Santamans earns Women’s 50m freestyle title: 2012 French Short Course Nationals
Anna Santamans of Olympic Nice Natation earned gold medal of the Women’s 50m freestyle on concluding day of the 2012 French Short Course Nationals on Sunday, November 18.
Santamans faced strong competition from her following swimmer throughout the event but with her unrelenting pace, she succeeded in overpowering her challengers over the finishing end for gold medal.
With her gruelling effort in the second half, Santamans edged out her closest swimmer and cemented her place on the victory stand for the title.
Santamans remained barely an inch ahead of her toughest challenger and reached the finishing end for gold medal by producing a time of 24.69 seconds.
The champion was followed by Pernille Blume of Denmark, who stayed only 0.12 seconds slower from her foregoing swimmer and transpired on the wall for silver medal by reporting a time of 24.81 seconds.
Similarly, Blume stayed 0.21 seconds away from Melanie Henique of Amiens Metropole Nat., who seized third position of the race by clocking a time of 25.02 seconds.
Third fastest swimmer of the race was secured by Beryl Gastaldello of Olympic Nice Natation, who stayed 0.11 seconds slower and posted a time of 25.13 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Alizee Merdy of CN Marseille, who was 0.30 seconds slower and concluded her race in a time of 25.33 seconds.
Merdy was chased by Assia Touati of CN Sarreguemines, who was 0.22 seconds apart and ended her race in sixth place by clocking a time of 25.55 seconds.
Touati remained just 0.01 seconds ahead of Cloe Hache of Beauvaisis Aquatic Club, who completed her race in seventh best place by submitting a time of 25.56 seconds.
Eighth position of the shortest freestyle event was obtained by Mathilde Cini of Valence Triathlon, who was 0.03 seconds slower and ended her race in a time of 25.59 seconds.
In addition, Santamans expressed happiness over her victory in the 50m discipline and stated her desire of impressing her fans by excelling the same event at the 2012 World Short Course Championships in Istanbul, Turkey, this December.
