Anna Tatishvili and Laura Robson continues to progress at the US Open 2012 – Tennis News
World number 73, Anna Tatishvili, continued her sublime run of form at the third round of the US Open Championships; beating the 26-year-old Luxembourgian star, Mandy Minella, in straight sets 7-5, 6-0. It was another welcome triumph
for the 22-year-old Georgian who hadn’t thought of reaching this far in the Grand Slam Championships.
Tatishvili said, "I had never been in the third round of a Grand Slam before so I was very nervous, before the match and during it. I don't think I played my best tennis but I kept my head straight and was very patient. I think
Mandy was rushing a couple shots and missed some here and there today."
She further added, “I lived here when I was younger for a little bit, my aunt lives here, and a lot of my close friends live here," she said. "It's kind of like my third home, so it's a good place to do it for the first time."
The tournament begin with the straight sets battering of the French professional, Stephanie Foretz Gacon, and the supreme form was continued against the 38th ranked Romanian star, Sorana Cirstea, who looked in a terrific
form but wasn’t allowed to surpass the second stage of the tournament. On the eve of Friday, Tatishvili proved her worth by ousting Mandy Minella in comprehensive fashion and booking a date with the reigning world number one, Victoria Azarenka, who will under
a lot of pressure to survive an upset and create a stronghold at the top spot.
Tatishvili plays with ‘nothing to lose’ motto in every match and goes out with full energy. She has not hit the radar but the breakthrough performance at the fourth Grand Slam Championship of the season will definitely list her
amongst the underdogs to beat.
The list is definitely topped by the 18-year-old British booming starlet, Laura Robson, who ended the career of the former world number one, Kim Clijsters, in the second round and continued her emphatic form to overpower the former
French Open Champion, Li Na, in the third round clash.
Robson plays the defending champion, Samantha Stosur, in the fourth round.
