Anna Tatishvili defeats Tatia Mikadze in the second round – Baku Cup 2011
Thursday, July 2011 saw the continuation of the second round of the Baku Cup. Both the players had contested on a rukfort hard court at the Baku Tennis Academy, Baku, Azerbaijan. Meeting for the first time the world number 93 Anna
Tatishvili claimed a straight set 7-6(4), 6-3 victory against Tatia Mikadze in the second round of the Baku Cup 2011.
Mikadze was first to take off on the scorecard, breaking Anna Tatishvili in the first four games to grab a 4-0 lead. The Georgian (Anna Tatishvili) repeated the beating her rival in the following 4 games to cut the lead and level
the scores at 4-4, then 5-5 eventually led onto a tiebreaker 6-6.  Winning on consecutive serves in the tie breaker 6-4, she won the set and took the lead of 1-0. The set overall saw Anna; smash an ace, strike two double faults, both which hit the net. She
scored an above average sixty percent in her total serve points along with a mediocre return (forty six percent). Although it was a tough match between both the players Anna won it by four more points than Mikadze.
During the second set Anna served first and opened the game at 1-0, she won consecutive game points and because of a strong defence did not give any break point advantages to her opponent instead she won fifty percent of her break
points. Anna served brilliantly and won seventy five percent of her first serves had an average return serve winning forty one percent of total return points.  Although, Mikadze had a good serve, she failed to impress with her return points and also gave a
break point advantage to her opponent, at the same time she also won no break points.  It was as if Mikadze had given up all hope after losing the first set. She didn’t want to try and because of a poor return game ended losing the set and the match.
Overall; both the sets were won by Anna as she was able to get a competitive edge on her opponent by winning her break points and not committing any.  Across the board; Anna had served superbly and had a good return game where
as her opponent Mikadze had an above average serve she was not able to play a good return game. Due to a weak defence she lost the match with twelve points less than that of Anna’s.
Anna managed to qualify to the quarterfinal where she will be facing either the Slovakian Kristina Kucova or the Russian Vera Zvonareva.
