Anna Tatishvili ousts Tetiana Luzhanska in qualifying final of Family Circle Cup
Georgian tennis player Anna Tatishvili recorded a straight-sets victory over Ukrainian tennis pro Tetiana Luzhanska in the final round of the qualifying singles of the 2011 Family Circle Cup, defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-2
to win the match and proceed to the main draw of the prestigious Premier event. Tatishvili took just one hour and three minutes to oust her Ukrainian opponent.
Georgia’s Tatishvili is currently ranked World Number 115, although she has not officially been declared as a professional tennis player yet. The player is 21 years old, and has been playing tennis since the age of four.
She is right-handed, and has not won any WTA career titles so far. The player, who lives in Florida, has won eleven of eighteen 2011 matches prior to this tournament.
On the other side of the net, Tetiana Luzhanska is currently ranked World Number 195. The player is 26 years old, and also resides in Florida these days. She plays right-handed tennis, and has won fifteen of the twenty-one
matches she has played so far this year.
The match was not a competitive one, as Anna Tatishvili maintained a clear edge throughout the qualifying round. She seemed to be determined to secure a place in the main draw of the Family Circle Cup, beginning the first
set with resolve and scoring the solitary ace of the match. Although she could not save two break points in this set, the player managed to successfully convert two of six break points against Tetiana Luzhanska. She won an impressive 64 per cent of the points
to win the first set 6-2.
The second set was an equally passive affair, with Tatishvili saving two of three break points and converting three of four against Luzhanska to gain a clear advantage in the match. Both players scored no aces, but also avoided
committing any double faults. Tatishvili maintained her first-set performance in this part of the match, winning 64 per cent of the total points to take the match 6-2, 6-2.
In total, Anna Tatishvili scored one ace and two double faults during the match. She also saved two of five break points, along with successfully converting seven of ten break points against Luzhanska. In addition to this,
she won 64 percent of the total points in the match.
This is Tatishvili’s second match against Luzhanska, as well as her second straight win. Their first meeting was in 2008 at Troy, when the two players met in the round of the last 32. The Georgian pro ousted Luzhanska in
three sets.
Anna Tatishvili will be taking on Australian tennis pro Jelena Dokic in the first round of the main draw of this year’s Family Circle Cup.
