Anna Tatishvili outmanoeuvres Russian Evgeniya Rodina in the 1st round – Baku Cup 2011
Tuesday July 19th 2011 saw the continuation of the first round of the Baku Cup 2011, Baku, Azerbaijan. It was an easy victory for the Georgian, (Anna Tatishvili) player against her 22-year-old Russian opponent Evgeniya
Rodina. Finishing the match in under 66 minutes Anna won 6-4, 6-2. This was the player’s first ever career meeting.
Even though the first set of the match saw Anna’s accuracy falter three times as she struck two line faults and one hit the net, she also wasn’t able to save any of her break points instead gave three break point chances to her
opponent, she still had luck and a unique game on her side. She had won the toss and serving first managed to win sixty nine percent of her total service points which were almost twice as her opponents. Her return serve was an excellent display of rebounding
shots aimed at her opponent she won a walloping sixty one percent of her first return points. She was also able to secure six out of the eight break points to her success and at every ball she pounced at an opportunity to get an upper hand against her opponent.
Although, Rodina had won all her break points to her advantage they were not as many as the break points she struck. Rodina didn’t want to try instead had a poor serve and a poorer return game and thus lost the set 1-0.
Even after taking a beating in the first set Rodina hadn’t learnt her lesson and although Rodina played better in the second set by smashing an ace, both the players had extreme precession and did not serve a single double fault
which was a major improvement from the first set. Both also were not able to save their break points and both had won all their break points to their advantage. So now one wonders, who got a competitive edge…well ofcourse it was Anna who had the competitive
edge because of her excellent serve and her return game. Her score of the total set points was forty percent more than her opponents and therefore took the lead 2-0.
Across the board the score card saw Anna throw an ace, three double faults out of which one hit the net while the other two were line faults. She had an excellent serve along with a return game like a board that stood firmly at
the back of the court bouncing all that came her way. She won the match with a total of sixty one points out of ninety eight while her opponent staggered in style and game and could hardly manage thirty seven total match points out of the ninety eight.
The 21-year-old Georgian will now be facing her compatriot Tatia Mikadze in the second round of the Baku Cup 2011.
