Anna Tovsta wins Women’s 200m butterfly gold title – 2011 World Deaf Swimming Championships
Anna Tovsta of Ukraine occupied the gold medal of Women’s 200m butterfly meet, on the subsequent day of the 2011 World Deaf Swimming Championships, on Monday, August 8, in Coimbra, Portugal.
The competition is a seven-day long course event, which is being organised by the international aquatic sport’s governing body, Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA).
The 20-year-old Tovsta demonstrated her wonderful skills in front of the arena to capture the gold of distant butterfly swim, by submitting a new Deaf Championship record time of 2 minutes and 24.36 seconds. Her time was 1.05 seconds under the previous mark
of 2 minutes and 25.41 seconds, made by Katy Dobner of USA in 1995. Nonetheless, the gold medallist was 1.90 seconds above the world record of 2 minutes and 22.46 seconds, set by He Yue Yue of China in 2009.
Tovsta was trailed by Kana Imamura of Japan, who was 1.66 seconds slower than the world champion and ended her swim in 2 minutes and 26.02 seconds. Similarly, Imamura overwhelmed the effort of her subsequent swimmer, Kristin Ates of United States, with a
difference of 4.85 seconds. Ates clinched victory and won the third position medal, by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 30.87 seconds.
Meanwhile, Ates’s team-mate, Sydney Bello surfaced as the fourth fastest swimmer of the event, with a timing of 2 minutes and 31.94 seconds. He was followed by Ayaka Fujikawa of Japan who was nearly three seconds away from her and reported in a time of 2
minutes and 34.12 seconds.
In the meantime, Russian swimmer, Stella Zagorodniuk transpired as the sixth best swimmer of the four-lap swim, as she produced a time of 2 minutes and 41.87 seconds. Kateryna Ivanenko of Ukraine was the last swimmer to conclude her swim, as she settled
as the eighth position holder in the respective meet, with a timing of 2 minutes and 42.75 seconds.
In addition, the arena applauded for the invincible efforts of all podium finishers, while the winners collected their accolades after the sessions’ conclusion.
