Anna Uvarova pockets 57km Santa Fe-Rio Coronda gold medal - FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix 2012
Anna Uvarova of Russia served notice of her explicit talent by pocketing the title of Women’s 57km race at the second juncture of Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA) Open Water Swimming Grand Prix in Santa Fe-Rio Coronda, Argentina on Sunday, January 29.
The Open Water Grand Prix is an eight-stop series, organised by the international aquatic sports supervising organization, FINA.
Unlike the first stop of series at Rosario, Argentina, where ten swimmers took part, the Women’s event at Santa Fe-Rio Coronda was able to attract the participation of seven athletes.
Uvarova demonstrated her smothering efforts by outperforming her competitors in the open water discipline. She experienced tough rivalry from her fellow swimmers throughout the event but with her relentless efforts, she claimed victory with a significant lead.
With her unimaginable stamina and unstoppable leg-action, the Russian came across the finishing line for gold medal by submitting an effort of 8 hours, 44 minutes and 26.12 seconds. Her astonishing effort concluded nearly 3.5 minutes ahead of her subsequent competitor, Pilar Geijo of Argentina, who occupied second position of the race.
Geijo tried hard to overcome her following swimmer but failed to cope with Uvarova’s irresistible efforts and emerged on the finishing line for silver medal by reporting a wonderful time of 8 hours, 47 minutes and 58.62 seconds.
In the meantime, the audience witnessed a remarkable effort of Spanish swimmer, Esther Nunez, who remained comparatively slower than her foregoing swimmer, but outsmarted her following athletes with a considerable margin.
After a continuous effort of 8 hours, 52 minutes and 46.59 seconds, Nunez clinched bronze medal and went home swelling with pride. With her incredible effort, she remained nearly thirty-four minutes ahead of her following swimmer and secured her third position.
The session came to an end after the laudable efforts of all participants whereas the podium finishers were called upon the medal rostrum for their undisputed efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the event.
In addition, these athletes will once again compete with each other at the third stop of the FINA Grand Prix in Hernandarias-Parana, Argentina on February 5.
