Annabel Croft: “Andy Murray is a different beast now” – Tennis News
World number three, Andy Murray, dismissed the eighth ranked Frenchman, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, in the final Round Robin contest to book a spot in the semi-finals of the Association of Tennis Professionals Tour Finals. However, the
number one Briton has failed to keep a clean sheet at the O2 Arena in London; lost to the reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic, from a set up stage which left the crowd dejected. The grieves are washed away and he is in the last four stage of the ATP
Tour Finals; faces the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, for the final showdown.
Annabel Croft, the expert at the Sky Sports was pretty impressed by the game style of Murray in the current season. He is probably enjoying gone of the best year of his career so far. Croft commented, “I thought that first set
against Djokovic was some of the best tennis I have ever witnessed from Andy Murray, he was virtually unplayable. We keep saying it, he is so much more aggressive and he takes you out of the court with such heavy blows, particularly off that forehand side.”
He further added, “His movement is superb. He can cover every angle of that tennis court and recover back to the middle and put you in awkward positions. That's always what he's done so well throughout the course of his career
since he was a little kid. He is using the sliced backhands, the dinks and the angles and now he's added all this aggression on top.”
Croft was keen on finding the root cause of such a massive turnaround in the game style of the third ranked Briton. He was amused to witness such a passive player turning into an aggressive tennis icon within a span of few months.
It is something extraordinary, something unique that has helped the 25-year-old Briton to overcome the phobia of losing from superior ranked players. He has regained some momentum and the triumphs in the London Olympics coupled with the US Open Championship
have definitely helped the Scot to gain confidence. The ordinary top ranked player has turned into a beast which is incredible.
Former world number one, Ivan Lendl, has helped groom the Scot to achieve what he has in 2012. Some incredible shot making that was missing from his game is coupled with aggressive attitude to make Murray a force that is recognized
amongst the best players.
