Anne Klyve, Marie Waland seize Under-19 Girl’s Doubles title - MBBC Jr. International Update
Norway’s Anne Klyve-Marie Waland proved their class in the title match of Under-19 Girl’s Doubles category in MBBC Jr. International and trounced Mikeila Carrington-Monyata Riviera on July 20, 2012.
However, it was not a smooth ride to victory as they had to sweat hard in three sets to read a favourable result of 21-17, 19-21 and 21-14.
This final encounter was held at Manhattan Beach in California, USA and both teams kept the local crowd intact by putting a commendable show of badminton skills.
The match kept swinging between two contenders all the way to final stage as they were equal with 1-1 match score but then Anne-Marie struck hard in the decider and secured top spot on the victory stand.
They started the ball rolling in the beginning of the first set when they prevailed in five consecutive rallies after 3-2 total.
This unbeatable campaign took them to a dominating position of 8-3 and they finished first half by registering 11-6 margin with great ease.
However, later part of the game was filled with sensation as the opposing team made every effort to come out of the deficit.
The Barbados shuttlers gathered eleven points after one-minute break but it was not enough to avoid a 17-21 defeat in the first set.
Mikeila and Monyata played in the second set with same conviction and this time they did not draw a blank.
They made their intentions clear by grabbing three uninterrupted points after 5-4 and finished first half with 11-7 margin.
After one-minute interval, Anne and Marie added few valuable points in their total and brought the contest to the right balance with 14-15 figure.
Though, they remained close until 17-18 but then their competitors stamped them with a tight yet decisive result of 21-19.
The Norwegian pair employed unique strategy in the decider as they confined their challengers in the rear court with a flurry of masterly crafted strokes.
They laid the foundation of their victory with 7-2 score straight away in the beginning and magnified the impact with 11-5 in first half.
They did not drop their pace after the break and earned the trophy with a staggering knock of 21-14.
