Anne Sophie Mathis takes on Holly Holm for the second time with titles on the line – Boxing News
Anne Sophie Mathis, the current IBA and WBF female welterweight champion, will defend her titles and will take on her arch rival Holly Holm, the former International Boxing Association female welterweight champion, for the second time, in a 10-round bout
which will be held on June 15, 2012.
Holly will try to avenge her last loss to Anne and to take back the title that she lost by getting knocked out in the seventh round. The duo will headline the fight card organised and promoted by Lenny Fresquez of Fresquez Productions.
The ring for the showdown will be set up at Route 66 Casino situated in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States and will be co-headlined by the non-title six-round clash between Raymond Montes and Jamie Gutierrez.
Sophie, 35, is a surging French pugilist who has been in a total 27 bouts and has lost just one to Marischa Sjauw. Since her one and only career loss, Mathis has been on a continuous 25-bout win streak.
Mathis recently shared her views about the upcoming bout and stated, “I think this fight will be harder and I feel that I need to knockout her out again to win. I don't think she will come out looking to be confrontational. I'm certain there is an advantage
for me having knocked her out, especially knowing that I'm fighting the same opponent in the same place. Physically and mentally, I'll be 100-percent in this fight.”
Sophie is right about the fact that she has a psychological advantage over Holly but still Holm’s is not an easy opponent that can be taken lightly. Holly, 30, has been in a total 35 bouts and has lost just two.
Also known as ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’, Holm is famous for her resilience and is somewhat considered as a women with a stiff chin. Holly now understands pretty well the game plan followed by Annie therefore she is also to some extent at an advantage.
If Holly prepares well and keeps herself away from Annie’s knockout jabs she might collect a decision win. Moreover, Holm is a southpaw whereas Sophie follows an orthodox stance.
Holly needs to be swift on her feet and must throw and connect large number of jabs so as to take back her and Annie’s gold as well. No matter whatever game plan Holly follows Annie will put forth a tough resistance and will definitely make things tough
for her.
