Annelyn Alba, Reyne Thraitscka Calimlim ease into round-of-16 in 2011 Goal Pilipinas - Bingo Bonanza
Philippine’s Annelyn Alba and Reyne Thraitscka Calimlim have entered into the Women’s Singles round-of-16, as both females thrashed their opponents in the first round of the 2011 Goal Pilipinas - Bingo Bonanza event, held at Bacolod City, Philippines, on
Wednesday, June 1.
In the first round, Alba put up a remarkable performance against Isabel Joyce Tan and clinched the match in straight-sets, whereas, Calimlim tamed Camille Burgos in another straight-set encounter without any considerable trouble.
In the round-of-16, Alba will play against the third seed, Danica Bolos, whereas, Calimlim will fight against Ellaine Joyce Malelang.
Alba demonstrated a mature game in the opening set of the match, where she remained ahead of her opponent in the entire set. She never lost her grip on the game and made her opponent work really hard to return her powerful strokes. Alba was successful in
beating her opponent in the first-set with an eight-point margin of 21-13, consuming only 11 minutes.
In the next game, Isabel tried to play quicker as compared to the previous set, but she could not handle the speed of the game and started to make unforced mistakes. Alba remained calm and played with precision in the first part of the set.
She continued playing aggressive badminton and won the second game in just 9 minutes with a stunning margin of 21-11. The score of the 20-minute match was 21-13 and 21-11.
In the other clash, Calimlim played her best badminton against Camille and finished the match in straight games. In the first-set, Calimlim started with an impressive touch of hard to return down the line smashes. She was successful in building up good pressure
on her opponent and won the opening game by a remarkable difference of 21-12, in only 7 minutes.
Calimlim delivered the same performance in the second-set against a confused Camille, who failed to counter the strategy of her rival. Calimlim finished the second game in a convincing manner by a 21-14 margin, in only 8 minutes. The two-set match took only
15 minutes to decide the winner by a 21-12 and 21-14 score.
