Annie Chandler clinches Women’s 100m breast-stroke title: Day three – 2011 Pan American Games
United States’ young athlete, Annie Chandler conquered the arena due to her animated performance in competitive swimming on the third night of the 2011 Pan American Games, in Guadalajara, Mexico, on Monday, October 17. The session of the meet conducted the
Women's 100m breast-stroke final.
Chandler jumped into the pool in thrilling fashion and thrashed out her rivals, Ashley Wanland and Ashley McGregor by posting a winning time of 1 minute and 07.90 seconds. That splash fell short of Annamay Pierse’s previous best meet record of 1 minute and
07.78 seconds, set back in 2007. Earlier, Chandler posted the fastest time of 1 minute and 07.17 seconds in August, 2011.
Meanwhile, Wanland hit the finishing wall in a time of 1 minute and 08.55 seconds to claim silver medal and Ashley McGregor of Canada posted a time of 1 minute and 08.96 seconds to earn bronze title in the respective race.
Alia Atkinson of Jamaica impressed the arena by posting a unique time of 1 minute and 09.11 seconds to finish fourth place. In addition, Kierra Smith of Canada earned fifth place honours as she touched the finishing wall and ended her swim to submit a time
of 1 minute and 10.23 seconds.
The arena saw some other impressive swims in the respective race. Tatiane Sakemi of Brazil went on to clinch sixth position by submitting a time of 1 minute and 11.46 seconds. Furthermore, Arantxa Medina of Mexico earned seventh position with a mark of 1
minute and 12.29 seconds. Finally, Julia Sebastian of Argentina picked eighth spot in the respective meet by posting a time of 1 minute and 12.60 seconds.
The wonderful swimming efforts of all athletes captured the attention of the crowd and the top three swimmers of the meet were awarded medals and accolades after the session’s completion.
The 2011 Pan American Games is an exciting opportunity for all young athletes of Brazil, Venezuela and United States to prepare hard for their futuristic meets of the London Olympic Games, in 2012.
