Annika Bochmann, Anika Lorenz get close as Nina Keijzer, Anneloes Van Veen retain overall lead
Germany’s Annika Bochmann and Anika Lorenz are closing the gap in the overall standings after their sail on Day 6 of 470 Junior European Championship at Nieuwpoort in Belgium. The German
team in Women 470 fleet are just three points behind the overall leaders, Netherlands’ Nina Keijzer, Anneloes Van Veen, who have retained their overall lead with 29 points after 10 races.
The 470 Junior European defending champions, Bochmann and Lorenz, sailed superbly at the start of Day 6 with a second place in the only race of the day. The sailors could have only one
race on sixth day, as the wind conditions were lighter and breeze gusting from eight to ten knots over the racing area at Nieuwpoort. However, the Germans are now in a strong position to challenge Keijzer and Van Veen in medal race.
While speaking to the local media at the end of Day 6, Bochmann said, “We had a good start and speed and at the top mark we were second and that was the same for the whole race.”
She added talking about their plan in medal race, “Ah tomorrow. We have nine points to third place and three points to first place. I think we will only start and we will see what happens.
In the medal race at the Junior Worlds there was no chance to lose the medal, whereas here we could do. We will only sail and hope we will get a medal and which colour we will see.”
