Annika Bochmann, Anika Lorenz lead women fleet on Day 6 of Delta Lloyd Junior 470 World Championship
Germany’s Annika Bochmann and Anika Lorenz are leading the women’s fleet of Delta Lloyd Junior 470 World Championship after sixth day’s races in Holland with 54 points. They are followed by Australia’s Sasha Ryan and Chelsea Hall, who earned 68 points at
the end of Day 6. With a two point difference, Great Britain’s Anna Burnet and Flora Stewart are on third place with 70 points.
All the 470 Junior Championship teams experienced conditions that weren’t ideal for racing. There was a light breeze blowing across the race site which did trouble the sailors a bit. However, as the day progressed, the conditions got better, much to the
delight of the sailors.
German pair of Annika Bochmann and Anika Lorenz sailed tremendously to pick up a splendid lead over the women’s fleet with 54 points after sixth day’s races.
While speaking to the local media after getting the lead, Lorenz said, “We were unlucky in the first race as we decided to go to the wrong side and there was not enough wind to catch up during the rest of the race. In the second race when the wind died completely
we didn’t know what to do: whether we should laugh or cry.”
She added, “We were expecting the race committee to cancel the race. For the third race, the wind was very stable, they were fair conditions, and in this kind of conditions you can sail three races with no problem.”
