Annika Sorenstam speaks at Broken Sound Club
American-Swedish star Annika Sorenstam, who quit competitive golf in late 2008, recently revealed that she, as a junior player, always hated speaking at presentations after finishing a tournament.
Speaking to media and a big gathering of her fans, Sorenstam said that her career has been awash with big surprises and victories.
However, being a nervous junior player is something she has never been able to forget.
Sorenstam recently headed to Broken Sound Club and spoke in detail on a number of subjects — from her career to her family life.
She had been a brilliant golfer right from the start, as she spent most of her time learning golf skills on the practice range.
Now that Sorenstam has said goodbye to competitive golf, and has not touched a club in months, she still appears to be associated with the sport.
She said that she is happy with what she did in her career and will always remember the love her fans gave her.
Recounting her early days in golf, Sorenstam said that she had been a bit shy, as she never wanted to win a tournament to avoid speaking at presentations.
She said that she still remembers those days when her parents expressed their worry about her being nervous.
She said that her parents finally decided to help her overcome her nervousness and talked the matter over with a tournament official.
"My parents asked me what was going on, and I finally told them," Sorenstam said. "They came up with a plan. They went to a tournament director and said, 'Why don't you have the second- and third-place finishers speak, too?"
Sorenstam’s career has been phenomenal, as she recorded 72 won on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour. She also played on the LET (Ladies European Tour) where she recorded 17 triumphs.
She said that she quit professional golf, as her personal life had become quite demanding. Sorenstam has two young kids. She said that she is still associated with the sport in many ways.
"I lost my desire to do what you have to do to get ready," Sorenstam said. "I knew I couldn't play that way, and didn't want to. I'm not a sit-down person. I can't stay still. I really live golf every day".
