Annika Sorenstam well prepared for a farewell
With 93 professional wins to her name, including 72 in LPGA Tours, there could not have been more that Annika Sorenstam would have demanded from golf.
The Swedish-American golfer, considering the level and number of achievements she gained throughout her career, has made a highly distinguished and prominent position in the game of golf.
With such a victory laden career, there could not have been a better time for Annika to announce her retirement from the game.
According to her, she has achieved everything she wanted from in her career in golf. In her last appearance for LPGA in 2008, her performance was commendable, as she demanded a farewell from her fans from the world of golf forever.
She said that people all over the world believe that sportsmen live a luxurious and a lavish life, filled with affluence and fame wherever they go.
However, in her view, most of them fail to realise that all these things become secondary as soon as one becomes accustomed to the game.
Then, it is just a part of one’s job that has to be fulfilled every day. It is precisely when players begin to lose their intensity and their spark in the game that they decide to reconsider and plan alternatives for their future.
Annika went through the same phase in 2007, when she found her grip to be loosening on the game.
She began to think about the future she has in the game. After taking a good review of the gains and losses she made in the career, she believed that it was better for her to bid farewell to the game in an honourable manner rather than departing from the golf course with malice.
Another reason for Annika staying firm on her decision of saying ‘au revoir’ to golf is because of her children.
She terms them as her ‘Grand Slam’ and it was primarily because of their growing ages due to which she wanted to spend maximum time in their upbringing.
After an eventful career in golf, their upbringing is the most important mission in her life she wants to gain victory in.
