I think that is his name.

He used to announce the Kentucky Derby and Breeder's Cup.

"And down the stretch they come" was his famous line. What happened to him?? He was a great announcer, and I am curious why he is not announcing anymore.

Tom Durkin and Trevor Denman are good, but this guy was my favorite announcer.

  1. he ranks with the best of them, you forgot old harry Henson"and there they go

" turning for home" and the field is well bunch" nose and nose head and head and neck and neck,

and old quarter horse announcer Bobby Doyle, "there runninggggg" and harness caller Joe alto" down the land the come, he has plenty of pace but no where to race, and now it's crunch time....there they gooooooooo, here they come...

i had a blast, but i still have my old harry Henson 78 record of the great classics.....typecast vs. convenience, j.o. Tobin and Seattle slew, it's been a blast...thanks for bringing back good memory's.

  2. Lol his name is Dave Johnson (Dave Thomas was the Wendy's guy).  Dave Johnson retired from the announcer's booth to pursue a career in broadcasting (he was an announcer for over 40 years!).  He hosts a weekly show on Sirius Satellite Radio called "Down the Stretch" and is a commentator and race-caller for major races on that network.  He still makes guest appearances at various tracks and has done some television work as well.  He will be playing himself in the upcoming Ruffian movie on ABC/ESPN.
