My computer all of a sudden on a several times daily basis restarts itself. Usually my saved backgroundd doesn't come up but otherwise it seems to work OK. What causes that?

  1. your pc is set to automatically restart itself if it encounters an issue with software or hardware.

Go to Control Panel > System > Advanced > Startup and recovery > Settings > *** remove check from restart automatically***.

If it continues, it's very possible that your CPU's fan might be going out (restarts itself due to overheating).

  2. a computer (xp or vista) that restarts itself can be caused by many things from hardware probles to driver problems have you installed any new hardware lately or updated drives if not it may be a corrup driver causing it if you're running xp try disabling restart on errors here's how click start then right click on my computer and left click properties

when the dialogue box appears click the advanced tab

now click the settings button under startup and recovery (the one at the bottom of the box)

under system failure remove the tick out of automatically restart and click ok

now you'll see the error it'll read something like this, Stop: 0000000ax0 (000000dx0, 000000dx0, 000000dx0)

make a note of the first set of numbers after the word stop then press your off button on the computer to turn off then reboot the computer go to google and type the word stop with the error number you should be able  to find a pointer to the cause and a possible cure
