I was wondering, as a teacher say for example you teach MATHS and when a student has a conversation with you, he sort of brings maths into it as well, like saying "acording to your calculations" and stuff like that.... wouldnt that annoy you?

  1. the most annoying thing to me are people who refer to math as "maths"...what's up with that?

  2. I totally agree.  But you have to realize that students often lack mature social skills.  This can be very annoying, I know, but he/she is probably trying to please you by including things in their conversation that they think you will be interested in.

Unfortunately, to a student we are only teachers, and have no lives outside of school.  Therefore, they think our subject areas are the only things that we could possible be interested in.  This is why they are so shocked when they see us in the grocery store and say things like "what are you doing here?"

By the way TechTeach, I'm guessing the asker is not from the US (possibly British), most other English speaking countries call math class "maths".  They study it in their flats, which they take the lift up to, and when they get knackered, they take breaks to watch the telly and eat lollies.

    Sorry, just being cheeky.

  3. i guess it could get annoying but....i think its also natural for a student to do that once in a while, but it depends on the istuation and what age person you are talking too......

you have to take it form both points of view

its natural for the student to do that.... a habit
