  1. Download a pop up blocker

  2. Click on the Start button, choose Run, type in msconfig, open that, in the window that comes up, click on the tab that says "Startup". You should be able to choose what things pop up when your computer boots up. Hope this helps.

  3. Try going to C:\Documents and Settings\YourProfile\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.  If you see shortcuts there for starting AIM and Publisher, just delete them.

You can also click on Start > Run and type msconfig.  Click on the Startup tab and uncheck the entries for AIM and Publisher (if you see them).  Then click OK.  I think you'll be prompted to reboot, but you don't have to.  And next time you do reboot or login, you should see a message about having changed startup settings, and you can say that you don't want to be warned anymore about it.  If you're unsure about making any changes like this, find someone who can help you in person.
