Annual Tournament gets underway despite reservations
If it was being assumed that darts has no reach once out of British territories. It is time to remove our misconceptions.
This is because of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association of America that organises a relatively unknown tournament involving the throwing of objections from several dozen feet.
Termed as the ‘Jarts Tournament’, the event entered its 19th year from 2011.
The fame and popularity of the event can be vindicated from the fact that, despite its limited scale of popularity, over 54 competitors took part in the event.
Winners, which included Chris Lyman and Matt Cox playing as a duo, went home with a cash prize of $300.
It is important to mention here that the Jarts Tournament is not played according to its conventional rules.
It was banned by Consumer Product Safety Commission in the year 1988, after a couple of children died because of piercing injuries.
In accordance with contemporary developments, a modern form of jarts has been devised which is now known with its original name of darts.
However, the list of objections on the game still did not end. The temporarily devised idea of lawn darts was seen as a means of causing skull puncture and, hence, their sale and manufacturing, both were banned.
Nevertheless, despite all these obstacles, enthusiasts have increasingly developed their interest in the game and organise it every year to manifest the level of interest that they have for it.
The technique with which darts are now thrown in these tournaments is fairly simple and acceptable at the same time.
The non-pointed end of the darts is released in the air, where they stick to the board filled with different points for different levels.
One of the key reasons that have been listed out for the ban on this game was that, in most of the situations, darts were thrown rather recklessly.
In the present scenario of the game, a distance of 34-40 feet is maintained to release darts. In all these circumstances, adult supervision is strictly advised.
In order to gain further popularity and publicity, a separate facebook page for the event has been made.
Perhaps it is anticipated to lead the formation of a new form of American darts that will be known as ‘Jarts’.
