Question:

Annual migration time.?

We recently moved into a small country village. Every year starting at the middle of September there is a garter snake migration through the village. Problem is my dog will eat anything living or dead; with the exception of bananas. He has just had all his shots updated. Will killing and eating a garter snake do him any harm? Can't really board him out for a month and a half. He's also our watchdog.

And since we are on the topic; what about the cat? She's been killing snakes all summer.

  1. Before dogs were domesticated they ate everything. These snakes are probably a great source of protein, of coarse you should check with a vet in order to set your mind at ease.

  2. it might be a good idea to take your dog through a snake proofing course. your dog will learn that the sight, sound or even smell of a snake near by means they come and sit by you.

playing with and eating harmless snakes may be fine, but your dog could mess with a venamous snake. it is not worth the risk.
