Annual spring exhibition tournament of Tigers slated for the weekend – Volleyball news
The women’s volleyball team of Memphis University, which owns the official mascot of Tigers, is ready to kick off the annual spring exhibition tournament on coming Saturday, April 7.
The Elma Roane Fieldhouse in the university campus will play host to the spring exhibition tournament. There will be no fee for admission and volleyball lovers are encouraged to come for the support of players.
The Memphis Tigers will be joined by five other teams from different volleyball programmes. So far, the Skyhawks of UT Martin, volleyball squads of Alabama University and Mississippi State, the Arkansas State team, and Mineral Area Community College have
confirmed their participation in the annual spring exhibition of Memphis University.
In the tournament opener, the Memphis Tigers will take on Mineral Area Community College and the match will start at 0830 (local time). On the second court, Skyhawks will meet Arkansas State ladies and the two matches will run parallel to each other.
In the second spell of matches, Alabama Crimson Tide will go against Arkansas Razorbacks at 10:00 am. Likewise, Mineral Area CC squad will appear in its second match against Mississippi State.
The home squad will return to action in third match at 11:30 when they will take on Mississippi State. Meanwhile, UT Martin will play its second match against Crimson Tide before the start of afternoon matches. Three set format will be followed in all matches,
in order to determine the winning team.
Following the completion of morning session, the volleyball action will resume in the afternoon. Another six matches will be played, while each team will appear in two games.
The Memphis Tigers finished the 2011 season with an overall record of 20-13, which included 9-11 Conference USA record. April Jauregui is the head coach of Memphis volleyball programme. Under her leadership, the Tigers have done really well in the last three
seasons. Jauregui is looking forward to a great start in the 2012 season. She is all focused to prepare her players for the tough competitions ahead. The spring exhibition tournament will certainly help the Tigers to improve on their skills.
