Anonymous Scout questions character of USC left tackle Matt Kalil ahead of drafts - NFL News
University of Southern California, left tackle, Matt Kalil is likely to become the third overall pick in this year’s drafts with the Minnesota Vikings who hold the third pick and face an urgent need at tackle becoming his likely destination.
Kalil the younger brother of Carolina Panthers centre and Pro-Bowler, Ryan Kalil has been getting some big reviews from the scouts and team general managers and the Vikings if they keep hold of their pick will want to bring the amazing young talent to their
franchise.
Milwaukee Journal –Sentinel’s reporter Bob McGinn released his assessment for the top prospects in the drafts for the offensive line and some scouts comments in the article are eye-opening.
Kalil receives high praise from many who observed him at the combine but one scout who remained anonymous said that personality wise the left tackle has problems.
"Not one of my faves. More of it is just his character. He doesn't have an offensive lineman's character, especially when you take into account how good his brother is in that way. He's got a real sense of entitlement. Hey, he's got a lot of talent. He'll
overcome some of those things if he doesn't want to wash out, if he doesn't want to end up being Robert Gallery."
This could be the same anonymous scout who also questioned the personality of Baylor University quarterback and likely second overall pick Robert Griffin III.
Kalil though need not be too worried by the criticism from one unnamed scout as he is praised highly by the rest including Carolina Panthers’ director of college scouting, Don Gregory who called him even better than his All-Pro brother.
"He's bigger, faster, stronger than his brother. He's so athletic. He will be a 10-year pro and protect your (expletive) out at left tackle."
The Drafts will take place on April 26th and Kalil will hope that he shoots down his critics in his first season with whatever team he ends up at.
The young left tackle is a wonderful talent and would make a great addition to Minnesota who need protection for quarterback, Christian Ponder so that he has time in the pocket to make throws and help the Vikings back into the playoffs.
