My Daughter is 11 years old 5'1' and weighs 83 pounds. She keeps complaining about this one boy who thinks shes too skinny and i have noticed her friends are a lot heavier than she is even though they are an inch or two taller. She doesn't have ANY eating problems. At home she is always muching down on something and at lunch dinner and breakfast she has a lot more than her 14 year old brother. I haven't noticed any weight decrease her weight just stays the same. I'm preety sure shes not anorexic because i asked the school nurse to keep an eye on her and the nurse said she shows no signifigant sign. I asked her if she thought she was fat and she said "Mom, why would i think i am fat? i kno im a bit skinny but fat is a major NO!" We have an appointment for the doctor but i just want a heads up. and if any of you know what problem she has plz tell me.

  1. sounds like your the one with the problem not her!

  2. She sounds fine, maybe you should calm down, give her the fatty food that she wants

  3. possibilities ill lay out

if u notice any odd behavior like often bathroom visits especially after eating she could be throwing up this food...being bullemic they binge alot of food then throw it up that's just one possibility plus the doctor will know ask her doc to check for it but dont let her hear u saying so if that's not it it might be an overactive thyroid gland where that makes it nearly impossible to lose weight it's unhealthy though ud need perscription pills for that or if she eats a ton maybe she just has a fast metabalism she's not anorexic anorexics barely eat at 11 she sounds like she has a very fast metabalism if u think u want her to gain weight..u can buy things like ensure at www.ensure.com they have them at target or i suggest a weight gainer ask ur doc im not a doctor but ive been forced to put on weight 30lbs actually if u wanna know how i did it email me..im so happy i put the lbs on too =) i can help with that for ur daughter the best  i can

  4. It sounds to me like your daughter is perfectly healthy.  She doesn't sound anorexic at all.  In fact, her weight is perfectly healthy for a girl her age and height.  She is still young and probably hasn't hit puberty yet.  She will grow.  I wouldn't worry or make a big deal out of it.  But if you see any of the following signs of anorexia, then it would be appropriate to step in.

    Signs of anorexia

    - obsession with food, calories, fat grams, and/or exercise

    -depression and isolation

-extremely low weight or rapid weight loss

-making excuses to miss meals and not wanting to eat in front of others

    -dry,flaky skin (due to malnutrition)

    -weak brittle nails

    -thinning of the hair

-complaints of being cold all the time (due to low body fat)

-3 consecutive missed periods in postmenarchal females

Try not to make a big deal of it.  Sometimes, an extreme focus on weight can actually cause the disorder.  It sounds like your daughter has a healthy relationship with food and her body, which is great!  Keep encouraging that

    Best of luck

  5. Different people have different statures and builds. My daughter is 10 and ways between 70-75 pounds. I think as long as she is eating and has a fairly good self image of herself she is fine. I think they are all a bit self conscious at that age but just make sure she knows not to let other peoples opinion determine her own self image. And you may want to ask the doctor to check her metabolism but if he says she's fine I would not try to make her more self conscious about being too thin. If all is ok medically tell her she is beautiful just as she is. And be thankful you aren't a parent of an obese child they have it way worse than the skinny kids.
