Another 800m question?

OK so I'm running the 800m tomorrow for the first time at a meet. Should I start out really strong, and lead, or just stay back, and wait till the end? Any tips? Should I just run it like I run in practice?

Thanks :)

  1. Don't start out too strong. Run at a somewhat strong pace that you know you could hold. After you finish your first lap, start trying to pick it up a little bit. Every 100 meters, try and pick it up some more, and start really pushing it when you instinctively know that you can.

  2. Go right to the back of the pack, and stay there, run even, and when you hit the back stretch on lap 2 is when you really push and pass everyone

  3. Don't kill youself early but its important that you don't leave ANYTHING on the track so often a big push will leave you feeling you could have done more.

  4. okay i found that it is much easier for me to steadily start the race out and just find a nice pace to keep up with the others than the last 250m or so give what you got left. when i gave it my all the last meet becuz my coach told me too and i was in the lead only for the first 400m then i died becuz i had nothing left to spare. it really honestly depends on the runner.

  5. DON'T run like it's practice-it's not. First 100 meters, find your place, elbows out: don't let people push you around. You should fall into a steady pace for the next 300 meters. When you start your second lap, pick up the pace a LITTLE bit, and for the last 200 (half a lap), really kick it. You should be full out sprinting your last 100 m. This is a FAST race, so even when you're not full-out sprinting, you should be going pretty close.

  6. here is what our coach tells us to do. go out hard for the first 150m then relax till the last 200m and then give it all you got. but dont relax to much. just you know chill
