Question:

Another CFL question?

I'm making a spreadsheet that tracks the history of each CFL team since the 1930 season. I have been to the official CFL site, wikipedia, and Soudog's fan site and have found discrepencies. So, I will ask a few questions here:

#1) It is written that the BC Lions started in 1954, but one site has them listed as the "Balmy Beach Beachers" from 1954 to 1956. And another Balmy Beach Beachers in 1941. Are these the same team and do they have anything to do with the Vancouver Grizzlies?

#2) I know the CFL recognizes the Montreal Alouettes, Concordes, Baltimore CFL's, Stallions, and Concordes again as the same franchise. But do the A.A.A. Winged Wheelers, Cubs, Hornets, Indians, and Royals have any relation to the current franchise or are they distinct teams themselves?

#3) The Ottawa Rough Riders ceased operations and then an expansion team named the Renegades replaced them for a few years before folding. Does the CFL recognize them as one franchise?

  1. The Renegades were considered a separate franchise from the Rough Riders.  I have no idea about your other questions, though.  I didn't even know there was a team called the Calgary Bronks, and I grew up in Calgary...

  2. The franchises which are considered official in the  history of the CFL are:

    Toronto

    Hamilton

    Edmonton

    Winnipeg

    Saskatchewan

    BC

    Montreal

    Ottawa

    Calgary

Teams that switch names or cities are considered to be a part of their current franchise, for example Baltimore is considered to be a part of Montreal's franchise.
