The Specifications are great, don't know if the camera is any good.

It is a good camera company ... only you know if it has the features you need or want.

The 3.8x optical zoom is better than most.

Yes, but that price is too high for that specs and don't buy camera from retail store unless is cheaper like amazon.com

For about the 270 nearly the same cost as the one you mention, Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5K 9MP Digital Camera with 10x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom

Is no doubt the best point and shot for under 300m you are getting lots of feature, like amazing 10x wingle angle optical zoom, very helpful and very nice 720p HD video record.
