Another Detroit Lions player arrested, CB Aaron Berry arrested after accident - NFL News
Detroit Lions players continue to show indiscipline and immaturity in the current offseason as another one of their players has now been arrested.
Cornerback, Aaron Berry, was arrested on Saturday by Harrisburg, Pennsylvania police after he was involved in an accident.
According to the Police, the cornerback had drove his vehicle into a number of parked cars and then attempted to flee the scene.
He is charged with suspicion of Driving under Influence (DUI) in addition to a number of counts of misdemeanours.
The Detroit Lions released a statement after the player’s arrest and said that the franchise was disappointed with Berry’s behaviour while saying that this type of behaviour is not expected from their players.
"This is not the standard of behavior we expect from any member of our organization. We have strongly and repeatedly emphasized the need to be accountable on and off the field, which makes this incident with Aaron all the more disappointing."
This is not the first time this offseason that Lions players have been involved in non-football related incidents.
In May, defensive tackle, Nick Fairley was arrested by Alabama Police for DUI his second run-in with the law after being arrested in April for possession of marijuana.
Running back, Mikel Leshoure also pleaded guilty to marijuana possession in May and was suspended by the National Football League (NFL) for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
Offensive tackle, Johnny Culbreath also got into trouble with Police in the current offseason.
Berry immediately released a statement of apology through his agent which read:
"I want to offer a sincere apology to the Lions organization, Lions fans, the coaches and all my teammates for my actions this past weekend.”
The statement continued:
"This is not the example I want to set for young people and it's certainly not what my team and coaches expect from me.”
He also promised to make sure another such incident never occurs.
Detroit Lions are preparing this offseason to make another tilt at the playoffs after ending a long-running drought in 2011-12.
However, incidents such as these are a huge distraction for the franchise’s preparations and they will have to ensure discipline amongst their players.
