Question:

Another Dish 508 PVR question regarding an antennae...?

I asked on here before whether or not you could use a Dish 508 PVR to record something from an off-air antennae. Someone answered me saying that you can indeed record from an off-air antennae. Well, we purchased one from ebay and we hooked it up. However, we cannot figure out how we need to connect everything in order to have the antennae signal pass through the Dish receiver. Our TV uses RCA jacks to connect the receiver. Currently the antennae is going directly into the TV, but it is also going into the receiver. Could someone please explain exactly how we need to hook everything up in order to make it so we can record something on the PVR from the antennae signal? Thanks!

  1. Connect the antenna directly to the PVR

Connect the PVR to the TV

Go to the PVR menu and find a menu about "local channels"

(menu-> system setup -> local channels)

With the antenna connected start a scan for local channels. Use the menu options to delete those you don't care about. The rest will show on the TV Guide.

Go to the Guide, select a local channel and press record.
