What does heaps mean?

  1. Large amounts.  In casual speech, it's a general intensifier.  "Heaps" and "piles" and "loads" can be used interchangeably in this fashion.

    That was heaps of fun.  This is going to cause heaps of trouble.  We had to wade through heaps of snow to get there.
