Another French Tough Luck For Venus Williams

Venus Williams’ foray into the French Open title abruptly concluded as she faced Nadia Petrova. William’s title bid ended when Petrova dominated the match and pushed a 6-4 6-3 win.

Venus failed to make a turnover as the Russian player delivered the served during the first set. The top seed Williams lost the match when Petrova gained a considerable break.

Williams gained the opening advantage during the second set, whereas Petrova pushed for the three-time break and called for an uncharacteristically defeat for the American player.

This was Petrova’s first victory against Venus. Williams previously won four matches over Petrova. The 19th seed Russian qualified for the semi-finals back in 2003 and in 2005.

She previously defended her French Open title bid for this year against crowd favorite Aravane Rezai. Following an advantage with break in the fifth game of the first set, Williams challenged Petrova with two break points during the eight and tenth. Williams nearly pulled off a turnover when she served at 30-0 during the final game.

Williams released a straightforward smash which the Russian returned with a netted forehand. However, 27-year-old Petrova came back with a fierce forehand.

This sealed the Russian’s win over the Williams for the first time. Williams shared her disappointment over losing her match with Petrova.

She further explained that the match felt like one of those days wherein she knew how to hit the ball but it just bounced off the course unlike what she preferred.

All in all, Williams considered the match as one of her bad days. Petrova advances to the quarter-finals. She will be playing against a fellow Russian, Elena Dementieva.

Earlier, Williams trampled over Patty Schnyde. Williams claimed the match by winning in a straight set 6-3, 6-3. The match between Williams and Schnyde was easily concluded.

Aside from the easily concluding the earlier round, the seven-time Grand Slam winner also provided the crowd with another unique event, Williams wore a lingerie costume during her match last Sunday.

Williams who has been one of the top-seeded players in the tournament is yet to win the French Open title. While her title bid may have been halted by Petrova, it is no secret that Venus Williams has always been a force to reckon with.

She won grand slam titles both in the Wimbledon and the US Open. Williams shared how she always set high expectations for herself.

The other half of the Williams duo has made it a goal to emerge as 2010’s top player. Williams further plans to keep playing her natural game indicating that proper preparation should help her win upcoming matches.

Her performance against Schnyde has been well commended. Her loss over Petrova was quite a shock to experts because her earlier round match play was impressive and dominating. Williams has been well recognized for her ability to play with the ball and her natural easiness in hitting the ball left and right on the court. T

The high ranking player is best recognized as a hard hitter. One of her good records includes a 12-14 point collection while playing at the net.

Williams is undeniably frustrated with another early exit in the French Open. Venus, who won several tournaments prior to the tournament, was considered as one of the favorites to win this tourney, only to lost against a resurging Petrova.

While the future may still not be sure of whether Williams will get to win another title, the player’s loss with Petranova is certainly not an indication of William’s degrading play. She still remains as the one of the top seeds and best players on the court.
