Another French star trying to shine on the European Challenge Tour
Two weeks ago, Julien Brun of France wrote his name in the history books by becoming just the sixth player in the history of the European Challenge Tour to record a victory as an amateur. He won the ALLIANZ Golf Open Toulouse Metropole.
This week, at the ALLIANZ Open de Lyon, another Frenchman, Romain Langasque, is making his way to match the heroics of his countryman, as he entered the final two rounds at Golf du Gouverneur.
The 17-year-old amateur carded a 69 in the second round, for a six-under par two-day score and a share of the ninth spot on the leaderboard.
He is now settled just four strokes behind the leader, Sam Hutsby, entering the final two rounds on the weekend.
Despite the fact that he conceded two bogeys and a double bogey in the first round, he managed to sign his scorecard with a four-under par 67, thanks to six birdies and a sparkling eagle.
On day two, he kept focusing on saving the pars and did not concede a single bogey in the end. He parred each of the first 14 holes, prior to adding shots on the 15th and 18th hole, and joined four other players on the leaderboard.
Talking to the European Challenge Tour’s official website, he admitted that he was a little nervous prior to the start of the tournament. However, he was happy to cope up with his apprehensiveness in a positive way.
“At the start, I thought it would be difficult to play in a professional event because I am an amateur,” said the Paris native, a French amateur Boys international.
He added, “I started with 15 pars today so that helped me to settle and stay in the tournament for the weekend and then having two birdies was a nice way to finish”.
According to him, the final results in the tournament will not change his plans of going to the United States for graduate studies, prior to turning professional.
“I hope to turn professional within two years,” he said. “I want to go to University in America first, where I can also concentrate on my game, and then turn pro”.
