Does Reception count as part of the 14 weeks or no? My bf got to Ft. Benning on the 19th. Before he left he said his training shouldn't start till the 29th. So does week one start on the 29th? And since Infantry training is rolled into one with Basic, is it true that around the 8th or 9th week, they get a weekend pass? Cause Im hoping to drive to GA to see him then.

  1. The time at reception does not count.  I'm not sure about the weekend pass.

  2. Reception is considered part of what's known as "Zero Week;" it's a week exclusively for in-processing (things like getting shots, getting issued new prescriptions, etc).  It does not count towards the 14 weeks.

He will graduate Basic Combat Training in the 9th week, and as far as I recall, Basic Training graduates typically receive a weekend pass (it should be noted that the Drill Sgts can revoke weekend passes for any reason).  However, as he has a follow-on program, that may not be the case, but you will be able to spend time with him at his graduation anyway and I'm sure he would appreciate it.

  3. Once he arrives at Ft. Benning, that's day 1.

You can't rely on the 8th or 9th week passes, It depends how they are doing as a team, If they s***w up, NO passes, more training, restrictions, etc....

YOU might have to wait until he completes OSUT!

  4. How is it all you senior leadership are so way off the mark. And I wonder how rumors get started through the chain of command.

To answer your question correctly...NO, reception does not count as part of the 14 week trianing period. They are in a somewhat of a "hold over" status waiting for the next basic training class to start. It is possible that he is in reception for a few weeks before day 1. Day 1 is not the first day you get there, day 1 is when training actually kicks off.

As far as the pass goes, there usually is a weekend pass around the 8 to 9th week. However don't make any travel arrangments until you here from him. He will be given the neccessary timeline to pass on to you by his superiors.

  5. Whether or not he gets a Family Day pass at the end of week 9 depends on his company. We were told day one that Delta 3/330 does not give family day passes, and the CO wasn't lying. When he knows, you'll know. Infantry School does not have the typical break between BCT and AIT. You go to bed in BCT, wake up in AIT, and you'd never know the difference.

  6. No, School starts when you get there. When I was in infantry school we got limited time off, never a pass. Before you visit, call ahead and check to see if they have visiting hours. A soldier is there to train, not think about the comforts and distractions in the outside world.
