Another Kaspersky question.?

I read that kaspersky locks up ur computer alot of the time, and im currently trying the trial version. Its excellent and seems to be an excellent AV program. on the other hand, i dlled a keygen to test if the AV would react and surprisingly, it didnt. it blocked many webpages, but im really not sure that kaspersky was supposed to let it though. my question is, is it just because i have the trial that my computer isnt being locked down basically? if i get the full version, will it change to "lockdown" mode?

Thanks

  1. Trial version is pretty much the same as the full version except for the fact that it's time limited. Maybe, the problem is that your pc can't handle to run Kaspersky or that there was a misconfiguration. your should check the system requirements and try to put the settings back on default or low-medium on web protection.

  2. Chris,

I have been using Kaspersky for 5 years now and I have a) never had a lock up and b) never had a virus.

I use the internet daily for both business and leisure.

Are you using just the AV or the full security suite?

Just use the default settings and make sure that 'Enable proactive Defense' is on and 'Application Activity Analyzer'.

I do NOT enable 'Application Integrirty Control' or 'Registry Guard'.

I have found that this slows things down and generates lots of unecessary pop-up alerts.

There are constant updates (several times daily) which are very fast and don't really interfere.

Do Not use another anti virus program at the same time and I did find that Kasperky and CounterSpy didn't like each other. If you are thinking of anti-spyware as well then I would go for the suite.

I give Kasapersky my highest recommendation.

    Regards, Zyfert

  3. Hmm, never heard of lockups, and if you were to have them you need to contact tech support as that is not normal generally. As for the keygen, Kaspersky blacklists keys that are not supposed to be active (when i say Kaspersky I mean from the update end, not your end), hunting them down with the av is not practical.

As for the website blocking, that is parental controls, by default your profile is set as a "child" (this has been fixed in 2009 btw, which releases around Aug 1st), to disable in version 7, open up the main window, select parental controls and under configure, select disable or something like that.

The trial is exactly the same as the full version, only the amount of time is limited to 30 days.

If you want the most thorough answers, then I suggest you ask them at the Kaspersky forums where we are glad to help you with problems/questions.
