Another See-saw day at The Travelers, Thatcher and Davis tied at the Top
Just like day one and day two, we have a different leader at the top after the third round, this time around Davis and Thatcher are tied at the top spot.
Four of the last six winners at the TPC River Highlands had their maiden win at the Tour. This time is no different, as every day, some new name keeps coming up at the top.
With this trend, we are surely to see a new face holding the title.
Thatcher shot 65 to share the lead with Davis, who shot a 6-under at the end of round three at the Travelers Championship. After the round three, Thatcher was talking about his three straight birdies on the back nine.
He said, "I executed just really well in that stretch, it is easy to say they are easy holes, and that is what you should do, but you still have to execute".
Thatcher was in the lead until the 17th hole, where bogeyed to share the spoils with Davis. Davis was in good shape, he started on the front nine and shot six birdies.
Going in the final round, there are seventeen other players, within the range of five strokes, closing in on the lead. It would be a very interesting final round.
The rain had softened the green, which surely helped Davis. He commented on the rain had helped him as the greens softened up, making it was easier to put on them.
In the past, Davis has been a times runner-up five times on the PGA Tour.
Fredrik Jacobson, the defending champion, had a par in round three, which kept him on 9-under. Jacobson said after the round that he was happy going in the final round, with three shots behind, instead of six or seven.
Fredrik Jacobson, Hunter Mahan, J.J Henry, and Bubba Watson have all been the previous maiden winners at the Travelers Championship.
Watson is also one of the four players who are 8-under and have a fairly decent chance of taking home the title after the end of round four.
Patrick Cantlay struggled in his first tournament as a professional, he could not make the cut after the third round.
After his day’s performance, Davis said, "I did not even realize I had shot 29".
"I was just playing and everything was going right. Then obviously we hit the turn and we had the wind pick up for about three holes and it was playing tough all of the sudden".
Stuart Applby, the Australian is also in contention for his tenth title on the tour. John Rollins, James Driscoll, along with Applby, are two strokes behind the leaders.
