Question:

Another Sub and Amp Question?

Hi,

1)I'm new to sound systems and wanted to get a amp and a single sub for my car. But I was wondering does the amp have to power the speakers and sub or just the sub. Because when I wired my head unit into my car i used the little pink butt connector plug thingys and I really don't understand how to take those apart and add wire.

2)Also my head unit has the constant and power wires from the car going to both the constant and power wires on the headunit (kind of a y connector thing). On my headunit I can turn it off and all but with it off the screen says off...will that burn my battery if I leave the battery connected every night or will that drain my battery because I'm thinking that with it saying that it is off that means that it wont but when it says that the back screen stays lit up and reads off.

3)Finally in my Nissan 240SX fastback where should I put the sub and amp? I was kind of thinking behind the driver's and passenger's seat. But all opinions are welcome.

-Thanks

  1. to answer question #1 absolutly not. in fact most the time there is one amp for the mains (4 channel amp) and one for the sub (mono or bridged 2 ch. ). there are however some 5 channel amps out there that are designed to power all speakers.

#2 does not sound right. not sure exactly what you are saying, but i have never heard of a radio saying "off" and staying that way. the constant power should go back to the battery (directly or indirectly.). switched power should go to the fuse box and turn on and off with the car.

#3 behind the seat would be a good location, pioneer makes a excellent thin mount sub that would fit just about anywhere, including under the seat (in some cars).

if you do not run a amp for the mains i would look at a sub around 200 watts, any more and you wold likely drowned out the mains. the pioneer would handle the 200 easily. yuo couls also consider a self powered sub, for simplistic, and compact installation. infinities basslinks, are pretty nice, but many are pretty cheap so be aware and always listen before you buy.
