Question:

Another Word to Replace "Grandmother"?

If you could come up with another name to replace "grandmother", what would you choose? I swear, my bf's mom thinks that just because she has the title "grandmother", she has executive privileges into the life of our 10 week old daughter. It's because there's a "mother" in grandmother. BUT, that doesn't mean that she is a second mother to my child...you know what I mean?

  1. there is oma, that means grandmother in russian. and nana.   good luck, that would drive me crazy

  2. We use the Ukrainian name, which is Baba.

  3.   One of my cousins was born out of wedlock.  She called her own mother Momma.  She called her grandmother "Big Momma."  That might work, try it & see.  Good Luck & Blessings

  4. Mimi or Mumsie, I had one of each of those.

  5. Honestly, kids will make up their own names for grandparents. We had a little disagreement about the subject when my son was born. My dad wanted to be called pa and my mom wanted to called granny. Apparently that has been the historical grandparent "names" in our family (although I called my grandparents grandma and grandpa!). I really don't like the way granny and pa sounds for one, and besides, for my own reasons I was really turned off by any grandparent nicknames. I just wanted them to be grandpa and grandma. Reluctantly, they agreed to my wishes about it. Well, when my son started talking, grandpa came out as "papa" and grandma came out as "moe". It was just too cute and no one could resist it. So, even though it's not what either party had requested, my son determined that papa and moe would be their new names.

  6. After my baby is born my mom wants to go by the name meme..

  7. Well we use Grammy and Grandma. My nephew calls his other grandmother by grand (her first name). Its really cute.

  8. I used to use Grandpa and Grandma. My friend uses Grampy and Nanny.

  9. grandmamma and grandpappa

  10. My nephew calls my mom Nana... That's still kind of close though. You could always just talk to your bf's mom... but if you're not comfortable then w/e

  11. Granny, Nanny, Nana, Mamaw
