1)Is it possible to finish high school, then to get into an acting school, and THEN have a possible succesful career? Is it also possible to earn a Master's Degree in any subject, and THEN get into auditions, or would that already be too late to start acting?

2)(what i mean is, is it worth to complete and have a degree in any subject and then try acting, and if acting does not really get me a living, Then i should work in whatever i studied? Or would this all be a waste of time?)

3)and finally, does one NEED to study in an acting school to become a successful actor/actress?

  1. Okay, it's like this.

1.) Of course it's possible, anything is possible. Yes, you can get your desired degree first, and in fact that is probably a very good idea unless you feel certain that you have a successful acting career ahead of you. It is never too late to start acting.

2.) Only you can decide if getting your degree is truly worth it, but my personal opinion is that it is worth it to have a cushion to fall back on.

3.) I'm glad you asked. The answer is h**l no! There are several Hollywood actors that lack training. However, if you have been specifically told by a director that you lack the basics or that you are not a natural, you may want to consider formal acting training.

Finally, I just want to add that you seem to be torn between acting and getting educated for a real job. Newsflash, you don't have to choose. I am a senior in college, working on my Bachelor's and I have already padded my acting resume with several theater productions. If you're really serious about acting you can make it work. Good luck.

  2. 1.  Never to my knowledge has it been considered a negative thing to have an education. Wherever did you get the notion that Acting was age specific, or had to start at a young age? In the latest stats, an average PAY for an actor is just under $48 K per year. Obviously you can count on your fingers, those who make more, and those who make less probably could fill a major city phone book. Hopefully no one goes into any craft or any arts career, for the money. If you expect it to be a gold mine, I'll send you a book I wrote in College. "101 ways to prepare and enjoy "peanut butter."

    2. I suspect I answered immediately in answer # 1. Might you suspect that all or some or no actors have ever been educated???

    3.  One should certainly have some knowledge, and again that equates to your general education. You could study medecine, become a Dotor, decide that an Attorney works better, and get your degrees, and certs. while all the time taking theater courses, on every level, and upon any graduation, keep your degrees, and try acting.

I offer an analogy, and mean no offense at all.

To think, or be told by others, that one has talent, doesn't make it true, or false, and in many cases it may not so much matter initially. If you've ever watched any American Idol, especially the auditions, you'll see 10,000 angry rejects, and 25 hopefuls. Of those 25, not all star quality, one will eventually be chosen. Realizing that it's all theatrical, makes huge $$$ for all concerned, and is so blatantly inane, there have been times when even the winners now live in Obscurity.

The larger issue however is another analogy I offer. One cannot possibly win a Lottery, if one does not BUY a ticket.
