Question:

Another band blamed for the death of a child...?

I just read an article about a girl who listens to emo music and the band My Chemical Romance... The parents and the coroner (what he has to do with this is beyond me) are blaming the music and the band.

Here is my main problem, and I quote from the article, "The teenager, who called herself Living Disaster, hanged herself from a bunk bed in her bedroom, after telling her parents she was going to kill herself."

Let me see if I got this right, your child tells you they are going to kill themselves, they do, and you blame music?

What do you think of this and who is really to blame here?

  1. No one.

If it were that simple to spot a teenager going in to depression we wouldn't have as many teen suicides as we do.When depression stops being considered a taboo subject and gets discussed openly at school as a common occurrence then we might have a chance at avoiding future tragedies. In the meantime, finger pointing doesn't help.

  2. "evil music" has been a constant cry of the crusader for literally centuries.  Most people will talk about Elvis, or maybe the Beatles, but even Mozart in his time was considered quite controversial for writing waltzes which encouraged couples to....touch...in public.  Such scandal!  (actually, I find it amusing to think of Mozart as a modern day rock star...)

Those "kids" are now parents and even grandparents, you'd think they'd know better than to become THEIR parents and attack modern music.

Unfortunately it seems that folks never learn.

That, and it's a lot easier to place the blame on someone or something else.  I mean it's not as if the parents should take responsibility or anything...

  3. None is fully to blame, however there are things that could have contributed. I'm nt blaming the music, however when someone is depressed and that young, it is easy to pick up and create own meaning to things you hear, and feel like it is cool or relate to it. I mean you aren't in the situation, nor do you know all the details as to exactly why they think there is some truth in it. So my suggestion is to not sound so defensive. Does it really matter who they blame. Their child is dead and they are not going to be thinking rationally.

What matters is that a life is over, who gives a sh*t, if anyone said it was cause of the music!!!!!!!!
