Question:

Another bleak forecast for the future of Vietnam?

According to participants in the High Level Discussion on Climate Change:

"A sea-level rise of only one meter could inundate over six percent of the total area of the country and displace over 10 million people."

The IUCN site at the link below also states:

"There is no doubt that climate change impacts are already present and increasing in Viet Nam, causing negative effects on all sectors and regions in the country ..."

Can Vietnam be saved? Will this scene unfold to some degree throughout many areas of the world?

  1. Since it will be quite gradual, the people would be moving to higher ground. Vietnamese people are pretty resillient as well as resourceful and I am sure most american veterans will agree with me.

  2. Ok... when this doesn't materialize,  will you be back here admitting your mistakes or will you just go on to the next disaster du jour?

  3. Wow, even the Central Highlands? Well, good riddance...finally a truly effective strategy to wash away the descendants of Ho Chi Minh.

  4. well if the area where you lived was hit by a natural and let me say this again"natural " disaster would you not move and adapt to where you could live for the time being ?

us humans have gone trough cycles many o times since we have evolved we will be ok !

  5. "of only one meter"

Over three feet doesn't sound like "only" considering that the sea rises by 2.8 milimeters each year--lol!
