Another braces question

Question

Will my braces change the look of my side profile? I really don't like it =/ I want my chin/lower jaw to move forward. My orthodontist said that my lower jaw is slightly retrusive. Is that why it's a little farther back?

The only way you can change the look of your side profile is through chin enhancement and plastic surgery.  The braces cannot change the shape of your jaw or its prominence.

Probably somewhat.  You're going to have all that extra stuff in your mouth that will puff it out just a little bit.  Then, depending on what all needs to be moved and how far, it may change, but it will go back.  That's the whole purpose of the procedure.  

Don't worry about what it will look like.  That will be temporary and people will understand why it looks that way.  You won't be hideous or anything.  It will change so slightly every day that unless you just see a random picture of yourself midway through treatment, you probably won't realize it's happening.

Braces don't change your whole jaw. Just small changes that cannot be noticed, even by a side profile. Here's a test for you:

Take a picture of your side profile BEFORE you get your braces on and one AFTER you get your braces OFF.

This should prove my theory right! ;)

Your braces won't change your side profile, just keep being yourself and nothing should change. That is why it is a little farther back.

you lips will be LITTLE bigger but thats just b/c theres something in your mouth kind a pushing it out. its not as bad as my writing seems but its so slight you wont really notice and much less anyone else.  oh and its also b/c braces are trying to fix your over bit so that might change the jaw a tad bit but not super much

also they say to not eat popcorn, gum, hard candies, blah blah blah. i know loads of ppl who've eaten all of that including me, and the doctors never know. as long you your not reckless and bit super hard adn fast. i know that wasn't ur question but i though ti should let you know

braces move ur teeth well not move but straighten ur teeth they dont straighten ur jaw u might have to get jaw surgery for that.

braces didnt move my jaw, but an alternative to head gear (called the "herbst appliance") sure did

there is this thing you'll have to get put in or around your mouth were you crank it with a key like object till it is completely tight! Its very painful but it'll do the job my bro is going to prolly need one so yea that might be your case!

Actually....braces can change your side profile. If your lower teeth are pushed back (for reasons of either thumb sucking or just genetics) then braces can actually pull them forward more making your jaw look like it was brought forward!
