Question:

Another cat or just let it be?

Our cat of 9 years (since i was in elementary school) recently disappeared.. We're not sure of her fate, if she wandered off (we live in woods and she often caught her own food) or if she was caught by our wonder full neighborhood coyote..

but all in all, she wasn't a NICE cat. She didn't like humans and used us to open doors and fill her bowl, she was "my cat" but my mother is the one who loves cats.. I feel bad since we've lived for 9 years with this mean cat when my mom has had such wonderful (male) cats before. I keep telling her she should get a male kitten to be all hers but she says she just doesn't want one.. I don't want to have turned her off of her love of cats forever! One of those "you gotta get back on the horse" things... so should i keep pushing or just let it go?

And no, its TOTALLY not a matter of "she loved out old cat and can't replace her" since none of us really liked her, we just fed her /=

you suggestions on the situations much appreciated!

Thanks..

  1. I would try another cat just to see it couldnt hurt and it may make him feel better or try another dog

  2. maybe surprise her with a new kitten? or "find" it outside.  When its  crawling all over her and giving her sweet kisses Im sure she will fall for it :)

If you really feel like she doesnt want one, maybe not push it on her, but if she loves cats, well who would hate a new kitten?

  3. The worst part of my life was the one part that I didn't own at least one cat.  I couldn't imagine being without one.

Talk to your mom and ask her if it is because the last cat was so anti-social or if maybe she just doesn't feel like taking on another animal right now.  If she answers that the second answer is the case, you may ask her to be sure to let you know if that ever changes.  If the answer is that the last cat put her off, then YOU NEED TO GET A NEW CAT FOR YOURSELF and use better judgement in choosing one.

I don't know how old the two of you are, but I know alot of moms don't like to manipulated into things that they don't want.

  4. Let  it  be.

  5. If it disappeared recently, I'd let it go for awhile.  Maybe in a month or so, start talking to your mom about it again and broaching the subject of getting another cat.  There are a lot of unwanted cats and kittens and if you could give one a good home, that would be great.

  6. Buy her another cat/kitten. I'm sure it'll make her feel better.

  7. another cat
