Another cortisone shot administered in shoulder of Washington Nationals’ Ryan Zimmerman-MLB News
Washington Nationals’ third baseman Ryan Zimmerman takes another cortisone shot to keep going for the rest of the season. The shoulder inflammation which he suffered earlier was fixed by the cortisone which allowed him to play smoothly thereafter. Right
now he endures the pain again and it seems that he has resorted to the same treatment which he adopted last time.
As the post-season is around the corner, the Nationals cannot afford their players’ injuries. This is especially true when it comes to Zimmerman who has been the cornerstone of the team’s offensive success this year. His outage from the season can be damaging
to their chances ahead.
Earlier the Nationals saw their outfielder Michael Morse suffering issues with his left wrist which gave an impression to the fans that he may miss important games ahead. For the same reason Washington’s manager Davey Johnson was concerned regarding him.
His injury, if it had prolonged and had kept him out from the team for a protracted time period would have been a big blow for the Nationals. Fortunately Morse recovered soon and has now come back in the line-up.
Similarly, second baseman Danny Espinosa reported pain in his shoulder the other day. When he underwent an MRI examination, it came out that he has a bone bruise. It relieved Espinosa because he felt in the first place that he has a labrum tear and thus
feared of going through a season ending surgery.
Auspiciously in the case of Espinosa, it has not taken a long time for the Nationals to see him back.
Right now, although Zimmerman is not injured and is playing regularly, there is an underlying concern that his shoulder inflammation may reappear down the line. Any injury to him while the crucial matches are underway is the last thing that the Nationals
want.
Johnson will hope that the cortisone shot that has been administered in his shoulder is effective enough to keep him playing all through the season.
Zimmerman has spoken about why he has taken another shot and how it is going to help him play comfortably from now onward.
"The doc was here today," Zimmerman said. "... and we just decided that's going to give me the best chance to continue to play and not have to miss any time and it's not going to do anything to further injure my shoulder or anything like that so there's
no risk and it just took some of that pain and that pressure away that's been bugging me for the past however long and hopefully we won't have to do it again, but if we do it was kind of a test trial and it worked okay."
It will be interesting to observe whether Zimmerman can continue striking mammoth hits for the Nationals in the upcoming games.
