Another debut at the Travelers, this time the honour goes to Daniel Miernicki
It is about time when Daniel Miernicki hangs his University of Oregon golf bag, but before he did that, he made one last appearance at the Aetna Tournament Players Pro-Am, on Monday.
Miernicki will make his debut as a pro in the upcoming Travelers Championship in Connecticut. Last year, it was Cantlay who came up with a big performance but could not receive the money due to his amateur status.
Daniel hopes to follow in the footsteps of Cantlay, as he said, “If I do that Sunday", referring to Cantlay’s performance last year, "I would not leave it on the table”.
Miernicki has just finished his fourth season at Oregon. He has an idea of the event and the enormity of the occasion for him.
He said that he had some idea about many previous players participating and making their debut at the Travelers.
Paul Miernicki, Daniel’s father, said that caddying for his son at this event was temporary, instead it will be Shaun McBride who will be his regular caddie.
Miernicki has been sponsored by Nike and fans will see him in Nike apparel. He will also be swinging Nike clubs.
Daniel belongs to Southern California and he has experience of playing alongside fellow Californians such as Rickie Fowler.
This will give him confidence and strength, as he will have some familiar faces around to encourage him.
Daniel Miernicki has a very strange degenerative circulatory condition in the right leg. Last week, in the US Open, he played and rode in the cart.
If we go back in history, fans would remember that he was the first player who rode a golf cart in a regular tour event.
In general, Daniel Miernicki has not been taking any sort of pressure regarding this event, Obviously, this is his first event as a professional golfer but he has been playing golf. So it is not a new thing for him, which is an encouraging sign.
Miernicki was full of praise for his coach. He said, “I lost in a playoff for a spot in the Open in Oregon, but Coach was medalist and made it. I am so proud of him”.
