Another diabolical Gettysburg question

On Little Round Top, Gen. Vincent's brigade held off multiple attacks by two different brigades of Confederates. The 20th Maine held the left flank, followed by the 83rd PA, 44th NY, and the 16th MI on the right flank.

The 20th ME fought on the wooded slope, the 16th MI fought on the rocky, open slope.

My question is: Did the 44th NY and the 83rd PA fight out on the open slope of the hill or the wooded part?

  1. The 83rd PA fought in the woods of Little Round Top.

As Joshua Chamberlain testified after the war; he  had no fears about his right, the 83rd PA " behaved with admirable steadiness and their heroic fortitude enabled us to accomplish our great results ".

The 44th NY's left flank was in the woods and it's right flank on the open ground.
