Question:

Another driving test at a certain age?

Do you agree or disagree with this? I think at the age of 65 or 70, seniors should be required to take another road test, and then every couple years after that. I live in a small town that has TONS of seniors, and its absolutely unbelievable the amount of times a senior has almost caused an accident with me. I was once cut off 4 times in a half kilometre drive, all by seniors. It's pretty much a daily occurence for me. I realize that this would suck for the seniors, its a lot of independance, but is it really fair to endanger the rest of us? Everyone takes a road test to get their liscense in the first place, to make sure they are a safe driver, so why cant there be a road test to make sure they still have those safe-driving skills? If they're not fit to be driving, they shouldnt be! And if they are fit to drive, why should they be scared to take a test? Agree or disagree?

  1. I agree that EVERYONE should be re-tested before every licence renewal. This would ensure that every driver is up to date on the laws and rules of the road. If there is a medical condition noted on a person's licence, that person should be re-tested each time he/she applies. This should of course include a vision test.

At the age of 65 and up, most drivers are retired, and as such, drive less. They also have more experience, and unless their medical or mental health is effected, they are usually good drivers. Of course, when there is a medical/mental issue present, a driver's safety (and others too) becomes compromised.......

    That's what I think anyway....

  2. Driving, like riding a bicycle once learned can not be forgotten. Their arrogance or their deteriorating skills and sensitivity in driving  were the common reasons for this dilema.  There must be a complete physical examination before old people will be allowed to renew their license.  If they are bad drivers before, you will not see them driving now.  Its either they are amputated or in graves by now.  They do not want to be an obstruction in the road, it is just that they don't want to accept it that they are that old.  Let the doctors determine if they are still fit to drive.  For now let us be patient with them.  We will grow old someday. Will you not be offended if youngsters will tell you to get off the road?  Just be a defensive driver always and you will be safe on the road.

  3. I wouldn't start with the seniors. Every 5- 10 years would be better. or maybe 15 for free time. for any age of course.

  4. I agree they should have to take a test.

I'm almost in favor of having testing regularly no matter what the age, but I doubt that would fly since we Americans are so dependant on our cars.

In Germany I think that it take 2000 euro, a rigorous 6 week training course, and a full day of testing to get a license.  Its judged as a privledge not a right, and poor drivers do not receive license and are taken off the road regularly.

Imaging being able to drive 130MPH legally on the Interstate because every driver on the road is truely certified to be a good driver.

  5. I agree but everyone should do it...............

Among licensed drivers, young people between the ages of 15 and 20 have the highest rate of fatal crashes relative to other age groups, including the elderly. In fact, the risk of being involved in a fatal crash for teens is three times greater than for drivers age 65 to 69.

Immaturity and lack of driving experience are the two main factors leading to the high crash rate among teens.
