Question:

Another drunken episode - Should Canberra keep Todd Carney?

After his last escapade it has come out that the club told Steve Irwin to lie for Carney to keep him out of gaol. Now the club have cut Irwin the truth is coming out. McIntyre wants to keep Carney so he will stay as he controls the club.

My son has told me some stories about Carney picking fights in Canberra nightclubs and barking at women when he can hardly stand up - so much for the rehabilitation.

  1. He needs to be stood down and enter rehab for alcohol problems.

His contact should have a new clause about being totally sober.

Any more episodes will result in instant dismissal from the Canberra Raiders and the NRL.

Look what stance Brisbane take with wayward players, instant sacking.

  2. Its one of those things, He is employed to play footy and that he does well. If they sack him the raiders suffer from losing a good player and Carney will just sign up with another team as past troubled players seem to do. I think hang on to him with massive of field rehab.

  3. Sack him.

Obviously, you can see where it comes from - corrupt Canberra as always, abused the Salary cap this year as well. Heaped with their BOGAN population. There is absolutely nothing good about Canberra.

  4. Canberra are weak as ...... with Carney, he wouldn't  get away with it if he was at the Broncos or Storm!!!

  5. Who knows whether Irwin was telling the truth for starters.  Pretty serious allegation.  Also Carney has been cleared by police for his latest incident.  Obviously something has to be done.  Bump him down to first grade for a few weeks or something.

  6. he has a real problem the raiders should take a stand and put him in rehab and get him some help. just like the titans did with chris walker. if they sack him another club will grab him and help with his problems then reap the rewards.

  7. Who in their right mind would want to keep such a p...k?

  8. Of course they should keep him!  He's 21 or 22, and he got drunk.  So what?  I was drunk last week, and you know something, it was FUN!  I bet you all had fun last time you got drunk.  What a player does in his private life is his business and no-one elses.  If he breaks the law its a matter for the cops, not the media.

The media are attacking players' behaviour, not because they care about the game or the fans, but to sell newspapers.  Controversy sells.  Don't be sucked into this c**p!!

And all this talk of money justifying us dictating how they should live, Sonny Bill earns $400K, $200K after tax, probably the same as a good lawyer, but he only gets it for 12 years!  When you look at it in this light, they don't get paid that much at all.   There is too much tall poppy syndrome and jealousy.

They play footy, they play it really well, and they get (for a professional athlete) a pretty small amount relatively to do it.

  9. Be serious without carney the raider's have no hope,he's a young bloke that's what we do, he'll wake up eventually untill then stop whinging!
