Question:

Another easy draw for ivanovic?

in every grand slam final she's reached, she's had very easy draws. the only REAL threat to her was Jankovic, while Dinara's road to the final consisted of two Slam winners (kuznetsova, sharapova) and a two time slam finalist (dementieva), while in ivanovic's draw, she faced no slam finalists/winners.

do you think ivanovic would've made it to all these slam finals if she faced any in-form elite player (sharapova, venus, serena)?

  1. i don't think her draw was super easy. safarova is a great player and ivanovic easily could've had her hands full with her, but she played well in the 2nd round. perhaps meeting Venus in the quarters instead of Patty would've seemed more "fair", but Patty is one of the best clay courters out there. i dunno. i think ivanovic would've gone far no matter who was in her draw. i mean, last year she had to beat sharapova and kuznetsova to make the Finals. she's doing well for herself.

  2. As many of poster above me said higher rank means easy draw, but she was about to meet one of the Williams sisters ( not sure which one) in quarterfinals  but they lost. She did play vsPatty Schnyder  (10th ).You can say Jelena had easy draw too.

And she didnt had such a easy draw on last grand slem finals she got to, she had to face Sharapova in semis last year ( and doesnt matter that sharapova is not good  on clay she is always dangerous oponent and that win was something like 6-1,6-2), same with Venus who she played on Austrlian open this year in quarterfinals. And many others, she is rank 2 atm so ofc she had maybe easier draw but on her side was one of the sister williams thats never easy.

  3. well ivanovic did have a relatively easy draw her luck..

    safina proved more....

do i think if ivanovic ran into elite in form players would she have won.. yes i do.. she has enough weapons, firepower and court sense to stay with players like that.. as she has gotten better.. so more then lilkely yes..

  4. yes, her draw isnt that tough...

  5. yes....dinara played well but so did ivanovic. she didnt lose a set until she played jankovic and she was playing amazing tennis. dinara lost several sets and also ana worked hard to get a high ranking so she deserves an easier draw.

  6. there's always that "luck" invovled, even with top players.

on the other hand, wta tour anybody can beat anybody at any given day, just look at the williams, wouldn't you expect them to reach at least the semis?

  7. I don't think so. But anything is possible.

  8. A tennis match can go either way at any given time. We've all seen top ranked players go out of tournaments to unseeded and lower ranked players at some point. So I don't think any draw is that easy. You have to go out there and give it you're all or you will be leaving early. This is just my opinion.

  9. Her draw wasn't that tough, but you've got to remember, that is the benefit of having a high ranking. It is no coincidence that Safina (the lower ranked of the finalists) had a tougher time. Just look at Goran Ivanisevic at Wimbledon 01: Had he been ranked higher, he would not have run into Roddick, Rusedski, Safin, Henman, and Rafter in consecutive rounds. Sampras at the 2002 US Open, same deal. His lower ranking meant that he had to fight through a tougher field than he had in a while.

Just the curse that comes with a lower ranking. On the plus side, by reaching the French final, Dinara should move up a few places and get an easier run at Wimbledon and the US Open:)

  10. Tennis fan, just checking out this section for the first time. Yeah i agree that Ivanovic's path to the final was easier, but i still think she'd have made it there irrespective of who she faced cus she's good. I was soo hoping for a Dementieva- Ivanoivc final. oh well.

  11. safina's roads to the final at french same like ivanovic did last year where she had a tough draw... last year, Ana defeated Medina garrigues in the 4th round in 3 sets, than kuznetsova in quarterfinals also in 3 sets... than crashing sharapova in straight sets... she went at french as underdog but she beats two of the top 3 women's en route to the finals... and she came at Roland garros by winning title at Berlin and withdrew from Rome because of the injuries.... so far, it's same like safina this year....

safina reached quarterfinals at french in 2006 and after past two years (2008) she reached final for the first time at french and at all grand slam stages....

like ivanovic, she reached quarterfinals at french in 2005 and after past two years (2007) she also reached final for the first time at french and at all grand slam stages...
